Artist Statement

Owen Carlson’s work spans over multiple subcategories of video, including stop-motion animation and live-action shorts.  He is able to utilize the different facets of filmmaking, such as sound design, motion graphics, lighting, and video editing, to deliver works which feature a distinct style of tongue-in-cheek humor.  This style of comedy utilizes elements like absurdism and unexpected plot twists to bring surprise and amusement to viewers.  Carlson will often use himself as a subject of the work, and frequently acts and voice acts in different projects.  His original content showcases his unique stories and characters, which include a variety of fantastical creatures and aliens, colorful environments, and unexpected plot developments.

In video critiques on the YouTube channel Onioncreature he is able to provide insightful commentary on media while keeping viewers engaged and entertained through videography and editing.  These in depth videos inform the viewer on a variety of different products and media, such as video games.

Many of other works by Carlson are original, and showcase unique stories and characters.  Carlson focuses on projects which interest and engage him that are often fast-paced and satirical, while very much keeping the audience’s perspective in mind throughout the creative process.
